Devlog #9: Backgrounds *jazz hands* (and monsters)

Hello hello again, we are back for another super cool update, and this week we are (mainly) talking backgrounds.

I've become pseudo environmental artist for the team and have been working on both overworld and in combat backgrounds for the game. With this I have finally finished our base tile sheet for the dungeon and plan on making a few more with slight changes (mostly with colours and props) to differentiate the different floors.

Along with this I am also working on the in combat backgrounds. Now we haven't really focused on this too much over the past semester since our main priority with the game has been implementing all the monsters and characters, so we've been using the same background from first semester. I did update it slightly, lightening the cells so the characters are no longer as muddled into the background.

I have also begun working on two new backgrounds;

"Doorway"

and "The Torture Chamber"

Creative names, I know. I plan on making maybe 6 total, including these 3, so that's what I will be busy with for the next week or so.

Now that backgrounds are done, lets quickly go over our monsters, which are now finally finished and ready to be implemented into the game :D The final monsters I had the pleasure of working on were:

The Face Swooper

Snail Man

And arguably the hardest to execute in pixel form, the Hand Puppet

Anyways, I've yapped enough, that's it for this week and hopefully we see yall next week, bye bye.

- Nicole :D
